Huor and Hurin Approaching Gondolin by DonatoArts Huor and Hurin Approaching Gondolin by DonatoArts
Oil on Linen 112" x 73"

A recently completed work for a private collection. An exciting celebration of both the Hudson River School landscape painters and the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. I have an extensive write up and dialog on the work online at:

muddycolors.blogspot.com/2013/…

Enjoy!

Donato

I always had a real difficulty visualizing Gondolin. Your fortress and lush landscape is quite a good interpretation. If anything, you made Gondolin look too accessible.

Impressive piece Donato. This feels like it needs to be seen at actual size to get a full feel of it's grandeur.

What a masterpiece! (I would only point out that the eagles' proportions and shape could be better: if I may say so, on your next go at these birds  the best would be to look for references of golden eagles which were the inspiration for the lord of rings/hobbit movies).
